The Regent's School Pattaya

The Regent’s School Pattaya was founded in 1995 by Dr. Virachai Techavijit. It has grown steadily to a current student population of about 1,000, including approximately 150 boarders from Nursery (Age 2) to Year 13 (Age 18). The current Principal is Mike Walton who joined in 2005. The school has a sister campus in Bangkok and an Outdoor Education Centre on the island of Koh Chang near the Thai border with Cambodia.

The school has a reputation for Holistic Education. It has over 40 community partners which allow all students to engage each projects of a social and environmental nature. This philosophy of community based education was modeled when the school hosted the Round Square international conference called We Walk Together for a thousand international delegates in October 2010.

The Regent’s School, Pattaya is well equipped for sports, with a 25-metre swimming pool and audience seating, a full sized rugby and football pitch (with two additional, smaller football pitches), a double gymnasium with basketball facilities and tennis courts.

Beyond sports, there is a 455-seat theatre for in-house performances and a brand new Early Years building for the nursery and early years children. The boarding houses are home to almost a hundred students and are equipped with modern fingerprint security technology.[1]

Accreditation

The school is accredited internationally by CfBT, and nationally by ONESQA.

Demographics

Of the 1000 students currently enroll, there are 54 nationalities present at school.[2] The 3 largest groups are Thai (27%), British (18%) and Korean (8%). The vast majority of the teachers are British.[3] There are also Australian, New Zealand, Canadian and American staff. All are first language English speakers except for Thai, Mandarin, Spanish and French language teachers.

Memberships

The school is a member of FOBISSEA (Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia and East Asia), CIS (Council of International Schools) and BSA (British Boarding School Association). The holistic curriculum is derived in part from the membership of Round Square and the IDEALS of internationalism, democracy, environmental, awareness, leaderships and service.

Curriculum

The Regent’s School’s study programme is based on the English National Curriculum, leading to IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education.) Then the International Baccalaureate Diploma in the sixth form. The Regent’s is an official test centre for CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) and for Edexcel.
